This is Kweku Anansi. He is a very clever boy. Today, he is wearing his favorite hat. It is made of big, floppy green leaves to keep the sun away.

Crunch, munch, nibble! A little goat named Kofi thinks the hat looks like a yummy snack. He takes a big bite! “Hey!” says Kweku. “Stop eating my hat, Kofi!”

Kweku’s older sister, Esi, is standing by the cooking hut. She sees the goat chewing. She laughs and says, “Kweku, your hat is very delicious!”

Snooze the dog is lying in the shade of the goat pen. He opens one sleepy eye. He watches the little goat tug, tug, tug on Kweku’s hat.

Kweku Anansi is a trickster. He thinks and thinks. Then, he sees a perfect, juicy green leaf on the ground. “Aha!” he says.

Kweku waves the leaf in the air. “Look, Kofi! Look at this tasty snack!” Kofi the goat stops chewing the hat. He looks at the new leaf.

Kofi really wants that leaf. He follows Kweku’s hand. He trots away from the hat. He is very hungry for green leaves!

Kweku leads the goat all the way to the goat pen. He drops the leaf on the ground. “There!” says Kweku. “Now I can go play.”

Kweku walks across the yard. Trot, trot, trot. Kweku stops. Kofi the goat is right behind him! Kofi wants more leaves.

Kweku goes fast, and Kofi goes fast. Kweku goes slow, and Kofi goes slow. Kweku has a new friend who just won’t stop following him!
