In Kweku Anansi’s village, people told stories about Sankofa, the golden bird who lived on the highest mountain. They said Sankofa carried one glowing feather that reminded every heart to choose kindness.

Kweku wanted that feather. “If I bring it home,” he thought, “everyone will see how important I am.” So he packed a small bag and began climbing the mountain path.

The path was steep. Wind pushed at Kweku’s scarf, and stones rolled under his sandals. Still, he climbed higher and higher until the village looked tiny below.

At the summit, Kweku found Sankofa perched in golden light. The bird’s feathers shone like sunrise. “I have come for your golden feather,” Kweku said boldly.

Sankofa tilted his head. “Why do you need it?” Kweku told a big story about being the bravest, smartest, most helpful boy in the village. Sankofa listened quietly.

At last Sankofa said, “On your way down, help three creatures without asking for anything back. Then you will understand the feather.” Kweku frowned, but he agreed.

First, Kweku found a baby monkey stuck on a low branch. He gently guided it down to its mother. The monkey hugged her tight, and Kweku smiled.

Next, he found a small bird with vines tangled around one wing. Kweku carefully loosened the vines. The bird fluttered free and sang a soft thank-you song.

Near the foot of the mountain, Kweku found a rabbit caught under a fallen basket. He lifted the basket, and the rabbit bounded safely into the grass.

When Kweku reached the village, a golden feather lay on the path. It did not make him important by magic. It reminded him that kindness already had. Kweku carried it home with a quiet, happy heart.
